Vijay celebrated his 33rd Birthday on 22nd June 2009. A series of social service activities were held that included a free medical camp and the launch of free computer training centres at Chennai.
Vijay’s Birthday Message to his fans:
When my first film was released, you started fan club and slowly went beyond films to do charity work . Starting with distributing free dhotis and saris, you have done wonderful charity work and elevated yourself into friends of the society like conducting free marriages, building schools for the under privileged, helping in educating the poor.
Education is the backbone for a country to progress. That’s why I pay extra attention to the field of education. Apart from helping to educate hundreds of poor children, I also distribute free books and notebooks. This year on the occasion of my birthday, I am opening 2 centres in Chennai for imparting computer education. These computer training centres should be opened all over Tamilnadu and for it to multiply it all lies in your hands. That is my birthday gift to you this year.
On July 20th, In Pudukottai district on behalf of Ilayathalapathi Vijay Narpani Mandram, Free computer training centre was inaugurated. In the heavily attended event, Vijay after inaugurating the centre delivered the speach. As a highlight of the meet, Vijay has launched MAKKAL IYAKKAM (Peoples movement), which will work for rights and well being of Tamil people. If required it will also participate in agitations for the same cause. "As the country's well being is in the hands of youth, Vijay requested the like minded people, Students, Professional like Doctors, Engineers, Teachers to join the organisation and strengthen the movement.

Vijay’s 49th Movie Vettaikaran is directed by Babu Shivan & being produced by M. Balasubramanian and B.Gurunath Meiyappan under AVM productions; Lead Actress Anushka. Music is scorded by Vijay Antony & cinematography by Gopinath.
Since the release is scheduled for Diwali, the shooting is happening at a good speed. The unit has completed their 5th schedule of shooting in kerala and pollachi last week and is in for a short break now. The unit will start with their next schedule in Chennai from next week . Few important scenes involving Vijay will be shot this time.
There has been a lot of information that is appearing in the newspapers regarding my entry into politics. It is true that I am thinking and discussing about this subject for a while. My fans are the main reason for my growth, and they are very affectionate to me. Totally there are 37,000 associations around the country, and my fans are involved in social service activities very actively. My fans put forth the suggestion that, we should convert the associations in to a political organisation so that we can function better. I was also thinking that I must reciprocate to my fans for their hard work. In the same manner, every family in Tamil Nadu considers me as their family member, so it is natural that I feel, I must do some thing worthwhile for them. So I decided that entering politics would be the best option.
